You might have
heard the buzz. If not, you’re about to. Releasing soon after the
new year, Windows Vista is Microsoft's’ successor to the Windows XP
operating system which came out in 2002. Windows Vista is a major
upgrade to Windows XP. Not only in pure power but in usability.
The following are several reasons you
should explore getting Windows Vista:
Security - Windows will
offer more in security then any other previous version of windows.
These include: full-disk encryption, which prevents thieves from
accessing your data, even if they steal the PC out from under your
nose and better protection against spyware and malware.
The Look - The first thing you will notice is that Vista
looks Fantastic. The touted Aero Glass interface features visually
engaging 3D rendering, animation, and transparencies. Translucent
icons, program windows, and other elements not only look cool, they
add depth and context to the interface.
Desktop search - The new OS tightly integrates instant
desktop search, doing away with the glacially slow and inadequate
search function in XP. Powerful indexing and user-assignable
metadata make searching for all kinds of data--including files,
e-mails, and Web content--a lot easier.
Parental controls - Families, schools, and libraries will
appreciate the tuned-up parental controls, which let you limit
access in a variety of ways. Web filtering can block specific sites,
screen out objectionable content by selected type, and lock out file
downloads. You can also restrict each account's access by time of
day or day of the week. You can even block access to games based on
their Entertainment Software Rating Board ratings. |

Wii
Nintendo's Wii video game system
(pronounced "we") is designed to attract
people, regardless of their age or video
game experience, to sit down and play
together--whether they're in the same
room or on different sides of the globe.
The system's name reflects this simple
idea. It's easily pronounced in a
variety of languages, and the
distinctive spelling suggests two
players side by side. The two Wii
features Nintendo thinks will create new
levels of gaming community are built-in
Wi-Fi access, supported by a new online
gaming service, and Wii's intuitive,
wireless, motion-sensitive game
controller.
The Wii Retails for $249.99

PlayStation 3
The PS3
features IBM's "Cell" processor and a
co-developed Nvidia graphics processor
that makes the system able to perform
two trillion calculations per second.
That's approximately 320 times more
calculations per second than the PS2.
Along with the traditional AV and
composite connections, it also
boasts an HDMI port, which delivers
uncompressed, unconverted digital
picture and sound to compatible
high-definition TV and projectors. The
system is capable of 128-bit pixel
precision and 1080p resolution for a
full HD experience.
Sony's
PlayStation 3 games are encoded onto the
Blu-Ray disc media format, which can
hold six times as much data as
traditional DVDs. This increase in
capacity--combined with the awesome
power of its processor and graphics
card--promises mind-blowing games once
developers have learned how to fully
harness the new console's power. The PS3
will also support CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD,
DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats.
The
PlayStation 3 is available November 19th
It retails
for $499 for a 20gb system or $599 for a
60gb system with built in WiFi. |

create new ones, post comments about particular images and designate
favorites. Free membership is limited to 20 megabytes worth of
uploads per month.
www.gutenberg.org - The
Web's public library, Project Gutenberg offers free e-book versions
of public-domain works. A distributed staff of thousands of
volunteers transcribe, proofread, convert, and translate the books,
which now number over 18,000.
www.craigslist.com -
Think of it as the on-line classifieds for free. Select your area
and see what is available for sale, look for a job, find a gig, and
