Keeping in Touch

As frustrating as new technology can be these days, you can’t deny that we are able to do some amazing things that we could not do in the past. The biggest change has been the way we communicate with each other. Email, cell phones, and instant messaging have dramatically changed the way we, as humans, remain in contact with friends and family.


I graduated from college not too long ago and I made many friends during my time in college. Did I expect to hear from them after I graduated? Well, some I did and some I didn’t. I had email, cell phones, and instant messaging but like most guys, I don’t often just pick up a phone and ask “how’s it going”. I truly wondered what some of my friends from college are up to. Before just a few years ago, I would have been stuck if I didn’t have their cell phone numbers or email addresses. The ability to keep in touch has gotten even easier as a result of websites like Facebook and Myspace which allow old friends to reconnect without even knowing that they’ve been separated by time and distance.


A few years ago a good friend, of mine whom I worked with, moved to Nebraska. He and I were pretty close. Unfortunately he didn’t have a cell phone and didn’t check his email often. So I knew that we would probably lose touch with each other. Less than a year ago I signed up for a Myspace account. A few months into using Myspace I got a message from my good friend in Nebraska. Boy was I shocked! He went on to tell me about how he now had a new baby boy. He posted the baby pictures right on his Myspace page. Without such a service, I probably would never have heard from him again.


I have reconnected with many old friends through services like Myspace and Facebook. While many people may live far away, the ability to keep connected with friends and family has been, in my opinion, one of the great advances of modern technology. Let your communication soar to limitless heights in the New Year because keeping in touch is so important and it’s fun too. Happy New Year to all from your friends at Bardissi Enterprises.
