ANALOG
TO
DIGITAL
TV
SIGNAL |
KYLE DEARDEN
By now, I’m sure
everyone has seen or
heard that the
government has made
the switch to
digital and that
analog signals for
televisions will no
longer be
broadcasted.
Now,
if you’re still
unsure about what
this change really
means, let’s see if
we can help you get
a clearer
perspective on the
situation!
On June 12th ,
to be exact, all
analog stations did
cease to transmit
the outdated analog
television signal
and switched to
digital.
A
digital broadcasting
system
will give you a
better quality
signal compared to
what the analog
signal can give and
it also allows
multicasting (which
is the ability to
transmit more than
one station at a
time.) It also
takes us from an
outdated technology
to the new standard
allowing us to
advance to the next
level of
broadcasting as a
whole. How does that
affect everyone?
If you are currently
on a paid television
service i.e. Comcast
or Verizon, you will
see no change in
service because your
television provider
is already
broadcasting to you
in digital so you
have nothing to
worry about. Those
of us who are
currently receiving
TV through an
antenna are the ones
that this change
will affect. To
continue receiving a
signal, if you are
using an antenna
after the June 12,
2009 change over,
you will need to get
a converter box
which you can find
at most electronic
stores like Best
Buy, Wal-Mart and
World Wide Stereo.
The government is
assisting some
people with the
switch over by
giving coupons for
the converter boxes.

see if you are
eligible please go

Another very
informative site on
the change-over is
http://www.dtvanswers.com/.
Whatever you do, it
is important not to
be afraid of the
change, but instead
embrace it and move
forward with it.
Once you do, be
assured that you
will see your
television in a
whole new way as it
comes alive with new
color and bolder
dimensions of
personality.
